Consulted Transfer and Merging Calls in Skype for Business

In this guide we will show you how to perform a consulted or “warm” transfer using your Skype for Business client. When using a physical phone the feature is called a “consulted transfer”. When using the Skype client it’s simply a merge between the two calls.

Transferring Calls from the Skype Client

When you’re connected to a call, navigate to the main window of the Skype for Business client and make the call you intend to transfer the first caller to. The initial call is automatically placed on hold.

After you establish the conversation with the second call, you can merge the two calls as shown in the screenshot below. Once the conversation is merged, you can hang up when you’re ready and the other two parties will remain connected.

Transferring Calls from a Physical Phone

Performing a (Blind) Transfer

  1. In an active call, select the BXer key
  2. Input the extension or phone number of the remote party
  3. Select the Transfer key
    • If the Transfer key is not pressed within 4 seconds, the system will automatically transfer the call to the currently inputted number
  4. The screen will flash the original calling party information and then disappear which concludes the blind call transfer

Performing a (Consulted) Transfer

  1. In an active call, select the hard Transfer key
  2. Input the extension or phone number of the remote party and select Dial key
  3. As soon as the remote party is connected, the system is ready for you to complete the transfer at that time.

Performing a Transfer Directly to Voicemail

  1. In an active call, select the hard BXer key
  2. Select the Directory key
  3. Navigate or search for the contact and select the OK key
  4. In the contact’s contact card, navigate down to the Voicemail line and select the Transfer key

Note: You can navigate through the contact card using the up, down, left, right corners of the circular button located between the display and the numeric keys.
