Moving your Lync phone?

With Microsoft Lync, moving your phone is a thing of the past. Users are no longer required to unplug and re-setup the phone. Here are a few scenarios to assist you.

Scenario A – This scenario covers the process of an existing Lync user moving between areas where a Lync phone is available and you are retaining your existing extension.

  1. Before you move to the new location, sign out of your phone. On your phone select Menu > Switch User > Yes.
  2. Do not take your phone, leave it there.
  3. At your new location (assuming the user before you completed the step above), sign-in to the phone (see How to Sign-In via USB).

Scenario B The next scenario covers the process of an existing Lync user moving between areas where a Lync phone is available and you are not retaining your extension.

  1. Submit an ISWR to the appropriate manager outlining your request.
  2. Before you move to the new location, sign out of your phone. On your phone select Menu > Switch User > Yes.
  3. Do not take your phone, leave it there.
  4. At your new location (assuming the user before you completed the step above), sign-in to the phone (see How to Sign-In via USB).

Scenario C The next scenario covers the process of a non-Lync user moving between areas where a Lync phone is available.

  1. Submit an ISWR to the appropriate manager outlining your request.
  2. At your new location (assuming the user before you completed the step above), sign-in to the phone (see How to Sign-In via USB).

Note: If the user did not sign out of the phone, you can try contacting them to sign out or you can reset the phone to factory defaults.

How to sign out of a phone if the phone is locked and you do not have the unlock PIN

  1. Unplug the phone’s LAN network cable.
  2. Press and hold the * (star) and # (pound) buttons simultaneously while plugging the phone’s LAN cable back in, continue holding the star and pound button until you get a prompt askingThe operation you have requested will erase all user-created date. Do you want to continue?
  3. Select Yes.
  4. The phone will take several minutes to configure itself and reboot, you will need to re-provision the phone with your Lync PIN.
