Provisioning a Polycom VVX Series Phone

The provisioning process for the new Polycom VVX series phone been greatly improved as Polycom has streamlined this process since the previous legacy phones (CX 600).

There are two way to provision the phone.

The PIN Authentication Method

This phone provisioning method is the easiest way to get a phone up and running. Unlike the previous model of our phones (CX 600) the new VVX series phones allow for the phone to be provisioned once via PIN and there is no need to re-provision it with the end-user’s credentials afterward if the Polycom BTOE client is installed.

Prerequisites: (1) Polycom BTOE client (Better Together Over Ethernet) installed on the end users machine. (2) The ethernet cable must be connected through the VVX series phone and the workstation. (**1)

  1. After the VVX series phone is powered on, select the “Sign In” button.
  2. Select the “PIN” authentication method.
  3. Input the user’s extension and PIN and sign in.
  4. Create a 4-digit unlock pin as prompted by the phone. If the user is not present, use the default PIN of 1234 and advise the user to change it later.

When the end user returns, all they would be required to do is launch the Lync/Skype for Business client and the phone will be automatically tethered via BTOE without the need to sign-out/in of the phone (if the Polycom BTOE client is already installed on the workstation).

Username & Password

Prerequisites: (1) Polycom BTOE client (Better Together Over Ethernet) installed on the end users machine. (2) The ethernet cable must be connected through the VVX series phone and the workstation. (**1)

Once the BTOE client has been installed, the software automatically detects the connection of the phone via the ethernet cable as long as the above prerequisites are satisfied. No configuration is needed on the BOTE client itself.

  1. Launch and sign in to the Lync or Skype for Business desktop client.
  2. On the VVX Polycom phone, select the “Sign In” button.
  3. On your workstation, sign in to the new authentication pop-up window with your AD credentials.
  4. The phone will prompt you to create a 4-digit unlock code and is ready to use.

At this point the phone will automatically lock and unlock itself upon login/logout of the workstation and give the end user full call control ability via their workstation. The Polycom VVX phone will momentarily display the message “Paired” on the screen and you will see a chain-link icon in the top right hand corner of the screen.

Note: When you lock and unlock your workstation, it may take up to 20 seconds for the phone to detect the change. Should the phone not lock after the initial setup and you are sure that you tethered it correctly, you may need to restart your workstation.

Note:

**1 – In rare cases that the phone cannot share the data drop with the workstation, a manual work around can be accommodated to allow the BTOE functionality.
